Kids Against Hunger - Erie CO
In any space with just two 8-foot tables, we set up an assembly line that can be run by 8-12 children or adults. Four volunteers add the ingredients to pre-printed bags. The bags are weighed, sealed, boxed and eventually shipped to places where needs have been identified. Within a couple of hours, thousands of meals can be packaged by any small team of volunteers.
80% of the meals we package are shipped to places around the world where malnutrition and starvation are severe problems. Kids Against Hunger - Erie CO currently focuses primarily on serving the people of Haiti, but we expect to help NGOs and orphanages in Central America, Africa, and elsewhere as we are able. Those meals that are not shipped overseas will be used to support local food banks and stored for disaster relief.

Following Haiti's earthquake in January, 2010, Kids Against Hunger satellites across the US were able to band together and ship more than 5 million meals to meet needs in that country.
Kids Against Hunger meals are based on a simple recipe using rice, soy protein, dehydrated vegetables and a vitamin-mineral mixture. It is designed to meet nutritional deficiencies anywhere in the world and easily cooked in boiling water. It's even vegan so as not to offend vegetarian cultures. One package contains 6 meals and costs less than $1.00!
